Eco-Generics  are products that meet the following criteria and have a unique Price Pledge:

• Products where the NHS price is more closely related to the cost of manufacture
• Products that have minimal Sales & Marketing expenditure included in their price
• Non Tariff products that aim to be the least expensive on the market
• Tariff products that will always be at least 10% below the tariff

The Discovery Project Eco Generics  are available as both modified release preparations and as medicines that may currently be prescribed generically.

The Discovery Project Eco Generics  are provided by well-known Suppliers and are brands of some of the most widely prescribed medicines. We are able to reduce the NHS prices of these products because Discovery is not funding large and expensive Sales & Marketing campaigns. This means savings are made directly by the practices who choose to prescribe these products.

This philosophy and the Price Pledge means that General Practitioners can switch their patients to Eco Generics  safe in the knowledge that they will not have to change the patient's medication for reasons of cost ever again. This will ensure that maximum value is derived from their drugs budget.

In the event that this policy causes the NHS price to fall below the cost of goods, Primary Care Trusts should be aware that an exit strategy needs to be considered. In the case of our non - MR products this is likely to be a move to a generic version of the product.
